As sad as what you describe is (for me it’s my parents) the full situation is worse. America is so anti intellectual you can be in this position with almost anyone at anytime.
One day you are explaining why it’s genocide with relatives long after you feel it should be obvious. Then another day you are talking with tech bros convinced billionaires are geniuses that must be even further incentivized.
Then you get a moment’s breath before it’s explaining why the federal reserve, supreme court, and justice department are not some sort of technocrats beyond politics.
Next it’s someone who firmly believes Russia was forced into invasion because they were threatened even though they don’t know anything about Ukraine’s history.
There is no end to this and Trump’s inevitable exit from the scene won’t restore the use of basic logic.
