So now you are into what is called argument in the alternative - you just throw so much at the wall hoping something will stick.

1. Yes a white woman who grew up poor and has a child before the age of 19 might be because of racism. Because America, for blatantly racist reasons that no one was even trying to hide, treats our poor very poorly. Reagan does a racist rant on welfare queens and everyone scurries to defund programs that help the poor.

2. My wife is also Chinese and you are confusing well educated immigrants like her that arrive in this country poor with victims of centuries of slavery and oppression. People that arrive in America by choice cannot be reasonably compared to people that arrive in chains.

3a. Systemic racism is still clearly present - incarceration rates, police brutality, generational wealth not available to black people, redlining after effects, and de facto segregated schools funded by property taxes.

3b. First off what do out of wedlock births have to do with anything? Are you saying a baby being born out of wedlock somehow increases its chances of death?

3c. Yes of course out of wedlock births can be caused by racism - mass incarceration and bleak job prospects can do that. As to why there could be more now that's because there are more out of wedlock in general and also men are in general very unwilling to help with child rearing on an equal basis. In response to "dud dads" many women choose not to have children (falling birth rate crisis) but I personally think choosing to be a single parent is better.

4. I also live in California and we don't redistribute jack. My god we have Prop. 13 here specifically as a tax rebellion. We have billionaires and our governor fighting against a one time wealth tax while our hospitals close because of Trump's bill. We spend a ton on police departments but very little on fighting poverty. Do you even really live in the same state as I do?

5. All of those things are out of control of the individual. However of the three you list I only agree with education level as being a cause of poverty. If you are wealthy having children out of wedlock or before the age of 20 is not going to send you spiraling into poverty. Education level / poverty problem is across all races. In American though the prospects for someone without a college degree keep declining sharply.

Again though none of that should affect a person's ability to have a baby - that's a broken healthcare system.

6. "If you blame racism" - as if seeing racism were some personal choice of mine. I'm very unclear what you think is fixed by not seeing racism in America except maybe your conscious.

7. Fewer than 3% of Americans live in generational poverty - okay that's just a lie. Based on 2024 data, 35.9 million Americans (10.6%) were living in poverty according to the Official Poverty Measure (OPM). You imagine over 7% of the poor come from rich parents?!?

8. First again we could just provide health care to keep babies alive - that seems a minimum.

But okay failing that yes we could spend more resources on better education and more available birth control in school. One problem there is that Margaret Sanger believed in eugenics and to increase trust despite that in 1939 had a Negro Project to try to have Planned Parenthood with black nurses and doctors but somehow that didn't happen and black women were sent to racist white doctors.

9. As I said in an above comment, which I doubt you really read, your own posted study said that even for higher level educated black women the rates of infant mortality are still higher than white women.

So yes while I agree that black women somehow personally overcoming systemic racism to work their way out of poverty would solve a lot, it doesn't change the level of racism - just mitigates its effects.
