2. The Destiny Claimers - tech is our destiny so no choices were made anyway
3. The Dumb Asses - god I love Musk!
4. The Economists - explained below
The economists have a neat trick when it comes to the incredibly massive outlays of capital that went into tech - compared to what? See we can't run back history and compare the shit hole we live in to a version of America where more money went to something other than tech like basic research, education, the poor, etc.
We vaguely feel that unregulated social media fucked us but we can't prove anything. Plus every new technology has a bizarre clean slate attached to it. Like AI is really good at coding, but where exactly has investing crazy amounts of resources in code gotten us?
Certainly hasn't got us longer lives as Americans live 3.7 years shorter than comparable countries. Oh and the American obesity rate is double Europe. But don't worry none of that shows up in the stats we economists care about!
