### Limitarianism or Fascism — Your Choice Mr. Billionaire

Two things we know for certain in an uncertain world:

* Rising levels of greenhouse gases result in climate change
* Rising levels of inequality result in political change — fascism

If we want to reduce climate change we have to limit greenhouse gases. If we want to reduce fascism we have to limit wealth inequality.

Moral and fair reasons for capping wealth abound in the book [Limitarianism](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/141310682-limitarianism), but now with Trump’s BBB none of that is necessary to understanding why limitarianism has to happen.

With climate change for most people there is some combination of scientific analysis plus increased natural disasters that convinces them.

There are any number of scholarly resources on the connection between wealth inequality / austerity and fascism like [this book](https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/C/bo181707138.html) or [this paper](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10551-019-04259-9). However, there are now many disasters or near disasters where:

> Anxieties stemming from rising inequalities have led significant sections of the world’s population to reject democratic practices and place their trust in politicians with fascist tendencies who promise to wrest control of their destinies from elites.

Not the least of which is a billionaire openly helping buy an American presidency for another billionaire who then slashes what few taxes the extremely wealthy still pay.

Meritocracy nut job proclamations that any capping reward will limit innovation, besides being a complete lie, is also now completely irrelevant even if it were true (which it’s not).

Also completely irrelevant is any form of trickle down, the rich get richer but we will all be better off, nonsense. Even if the money were trickling down (which it’s not), money can’t compensate for living under fascism.

Oh and the icing on the crap is that modern fascists are also preventing climate change mitigation. So if you are an environmentalist that’s not also a limitarianist then you are not an environmentalist.

The difference between climate change and wealth inequality driven political change is that for billionaires fascism can be personal:

* Ravil Maganov: Chairman of Lukoil, died after falling from a hospital window in Moscow in September 2022.
* Vladislav Avayev: Former Gazprombank executive, found dead alongside his wife and daughter in Moscow in April 2022, in what was reported as a murder-suicide.
* Sergei Protosenya: Former oil and gas executive, found dead with his family in Spain in April 2022, also reported as a murder-suicide.
* Alexander Subbotin: Former top manager at Lukoil, found dead in May 2022 after reportedly seeking treatment from a shaman for a hangover.
* Nikolai Petrunin: Deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s energy committee, died in October 2022, allegedly from complications of Covid-19 after a month-long coma.
* Anatoly Gerashchenko: Former head of the Moscow Aviation Institute, fell to his death in September 2022.
* Pavel Pchelnikov: Manager with Russian Railways, died by suicide in September 2022.

And there is also a list of Chinese billionaires that disappear or are imprisoned and then return later like Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group, did for three months:

In a choice between a completely unknown near term future and accepting some form of oligarchy approved limitarianism, the right decision for any American billionaire should be clear.

Bill Gates [says](https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/11/business/video/bill-gates-donald-trump-tariffs-uncertainty-worry-fareed-zakaria-gps-digvid) of Trump’s tariffs, “It’s a bad time to create uncertainty.” What would it take for a significant number of America’s 880 billionaires to become aware of the uncertainty they are all facing personally?

For millionaires it’s not that difficult to [figure out](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/jan/22/influence-of-super-rich-on-donald-trump-threatens-democracy-say-patriotic-millionaires):

> A survey of more than 2,000 millionaires across G20 countries published by the Patriotic Millionaires group has found more than half believe extreme wealth concentration is a threat to democracy. About 70% agreed that the influence of those with extreme wealth is leading to a decline in trust of the media, the justice system and democracy.

Some [draw the line](https://wemustdrawtheline.org) advocates are billionaires, but in general great wealth coming with great responsibility is not a realization most HNWI’s possess.
