The childbirth crisis being among educated women is something almost everyone is saying - not that you should trust it but that you can verify validity with other sources than me.

How does patriarchy influence men's attitudes so that they don't want to pull their weight in child rearing?

The "why" patriarchy wants to influence men is easy: Patriarchy literally means "the rule of the father," it describes a system where men hold power over women and children in the family (anthropology) or across society as a whole.

On the "how" I think shame is one component. Somehow real men don't do dad chores and definitely don't stay home with children while the mother works.

Another component is the idea that whoever has the better career should be more dominant in the household. So of course the more hours you put in with the children the less hours you put into your career and you risk becoming "submissive".

I'll be honest the problem with both shame and career focus as explanations is that our species is supposed to have a very strong drive to procreate. You would think a real man would do whatever it takes to have children - including pulling their weight in child rearing. How did we even get this far if our procreation drive is so weak?
