"The only difference is that religions are upfront about this; humanists act like theirs is just logic in a lab coat."

I've argued both with religious people and with humanists that their religion is man made. In my experience, neither religious people nor humanists budge an inch and why should they?

That it is better for humans to understand the man made nature of their religions is my faith, my religion (and maybe yours also). I have no way to A/B test the proposition.

"The gold standard wasn’t perfect, but it grounded value in something outside the system."

It *was* grounded in something outside the system until modern nations, corporations, and traders started gaming gold. They would control production or horde gold to an extent that Nixon could then convincingly argue, whether true or not, that America should not be at their mercy.

It's much the same with God. We now live in an era when the contents of the bible and the history of the bible's making, First Council of Nicaea for instance, are available to everyone. God was outside the system until education levels and Wikipedia demystified him for the masses.

Research has shown that even operating a cell phone makes a person less likely to believe in miracles. So the "grounding" that God can provide depends very much on the era in which we live.

This doesn't mean fiat currency or humanism is necessarily better - just newer and worth a shot.
